The Mother of Productivity

Tulisan ini adalah sebuah article yang saya baca dari koran setempat ketika saya sedang dalam perjalanan dinas ke Makati, Philippines.

Judulnya adalah "The mother of productivity" By Teresa R. Tunay, OCDS.

Jangan Sombong! Diluar Tuhan, kita tidak dapat berbuat apa-apa.

GRATITUDE IS THE MOTHER OF PRODUCTIVITY

Productivity in the workplace may be perceived many as that which leads to higher profits and the conmpany's growth. Productivity may be that but not just that. The kind of productivity I speak of that springs from gratitude is longer-lasting, benefits the most number of people, enhances quaity of life, and gives greater job satisfaction to even the "least" in the workplace. And the gratitude I refer to is that borne of the realization that without God, we are nothing.

Where did your skills, your abilities, talents, your very breath, come from? Your coworkers or may be everybody in the workplace recognize your genius, but one bad fall in the bath room could turn you into a vegetable in an instant. Your good health at age 60 could be your pride but a vehicular accident could snuff your life, knock on wood. Do you ever wonder - when you go to sleep at night - if you'll still wake up the next morning?

Our fruitfulness, our productivity in the workplace, is greately increased by the knowledge that all we are and all we have are gifts from the Creator. Thus humbled, we thank Him, knowing we are nothing without Him. Being humble and greatful makes us "remain in Him and Him in us" and translates to work performance that in due time spells problem-free progress, growth and abundance for every-one.

Can you imagine how efficient our work systems and structures can become if our brilliant ideas, corporate plans and programs are aimed towards this kind of productivity? Corruption at work will come to halt, and the gap between the rich and the poor will eventually vanish. Think about it. (E-mail the author at teresa_de_manila@yahoo.com).

Gospel - John 15:1-8

I am the vine, you are the branches. Whoever remains in me and I in him will bear much fruit, because without me you can do nothing.
